Keith T. Cox, of New Paltz, was arrested around 8:30 p.m., on. Friday, April 10, after police responded to a 911 call that a woman had been assaulted with a knife in the village of New Paltz, said New Paltz Police Lt. Robert Lucchesi.
When officers arrived on the scene they were able to interview the victim who told them she had been assaulted by Cox during a domestic dispute.
According to police, the woman alleged that Cox punched her in the face and when she fled to the bedroom, he grabbed a kitchen knife and cut her across the top of her hand, Lucchesi said.
The victim sustained minor injuries and was evaluated at the scene by the New Paltz Rescue Squad. She was released at the scene.
Cox was charged with criminal contempt for violating an order of protection, attempted assault, and harassment.
He was released on his own recognizance. A court date has not been set.
The investigation is continuing, and additional charges may be filed.
